Journeying through the Christmas Story – Day 5

December 5

Luke 1:46-56

46 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
47     and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49     for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
    holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
    from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
    remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

Mary stood in awe as the angel Gabriel delivered her the news that she was going to conceive the Saviour of the world in her womb! She was going to conceive the very “WORD”! She was soon going to be the mother of the Messiah of the world.

She went in haste to meet Elizabeth her cousin in the city of Judah, who has conceived miraculously by God.

There stood Mary in front of Elizabeth, amazed by what God had done in her life. She was in the greatest trial of her life but she recognised it was for a greater purpose. It seemed tough, it seemed impossible to comprehend. However, she remembered the very words of the angel Gabriel, “nothing is impossible with God”.

In Awe of His greatness, a song of praise gushed from her inner being and she sang declaring the magnificence of the Lord!

It did not seem right in her mind but her spirit rejoiced in the Lord. She felt incapable but she rejoiced that the Lord had considered her worthy to carry out this great responsibility in His mercy! She knew the Lord had not seen her status in the society but through His Holiness, He had seen her heart. She knew that it was in His greatness that God had chosen her for this task. She exalted Him for His Holiness, Might and Mercy! She overlooked her weakness through His greatness.

Many a time in life, we go through situations like this. When God calls us for greater things for Him, we doubt. We think why me? There are many capable people out there. My encouragement to you today is let our attitude be like Mary’s. Yes, it seems tough, but let us remember, “Nothing is impossible with God”.

When trials come our way, let us sing praises to the Lord instead of mourning, just as Mary did! Praise is the devil’s death knell. As we sing praise to the Lord, every doubt, every mountain that is on our way, will collapse. This Christmas season let us look into the situation with the eyes of the Lord not ours. Let our eyes be fixed on His Holiness, might and mercy! Not on our weakness but on His greatness we concentrate! Let us be people who look beyond ourselves and be confident in the one who called us!

Prayer:
Lord,
With your grace, make us people who will praise you with songs of Magnificence not only in our good times but also in times of trails and temptations. As we sing new songs to you let every shackle, every stronghold, and every chain that is holding us back from your destiny break in the name of Jesus!
May the Holy Spirit, guide us to your Heart through King Jesus Christ! Amen!
Blessings
