14 “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.
15 “‘In those days and at that time
I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
16 In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’
17 For this is what the Lord says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel, 18 nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.’”

Jeremiah made this messianic prophecy about 600 years before the birth of Jesus. Among many things stated in this prophecy, it mainly focuses on the Messiah being from the line of King David, usurping the throne. More so this Messiah will also be a Levitical priest. This Messiah will be the son of David.
During his ministry Jesus was called both, the son of God and the son of David. Both these titles refer to Jesus humanity, as compare to God the Son which refer to his deity.
Adam the first human being also called son of God (Luke 3:38). He was God Vice Regent to rule over God’s creation under His Kingship. Yet we all know he failed and his sin brought condemnation.
According to God’s plan to restore humanity to their rightful position, Israel replaced Adam and became God’s Son (Hos. 11:1). They were to be the light to the nations and live under God’s Kingship in the land of Canaan. They also failed. As a result God ordained human kings starting with Saul. However it was under David (God’s choice) that Israel saw their golden period. His successor also failed resulted in Israel apostasy and constant alienation from Yahweh.
Among these failures Jeremiah prophesy about the Messiah who will be from the line of David, will be king forever. He will also be a Levitical priest. One cold winter night in the town of Judah called Bethlehem born God the Son, to fulfil this prophecy. No ordinary human could fulfil this because of their sinful nature. So he rolled up His sleeves and became son of God/son of David to replace all those, overcame sin, perform the sacrifice like the priest but with His own blood and rose from the dead, to be the King and the great High Priest forever. Hallelujah!
Therefore what a confidence we have in Jesus, who emptied himself and became for us a complete human being. He is son of God in line of those who have gone before him. He overcame and therefore death could not hold him down. He was risen to be out King and our Priest forever. Hence we who are blood bought should take utmost confident from this and approach out King and our Great High Priest with boldness and confidence.
